CLIENT NEWS

THE GODISA PROGRAMME

In June 2002, PPG in partnership with wm-enterprise in the UK, started work on a development project for The GODISA Programme.

Godisa

Godisa (pronounced with a soft 'g') is a Setwsana word meaning "nurturing or helping to grow". The Godisa Programme essentially provides technology support to small to medium South African Enterprises. The background to the GODISA Programme rests on the explicit intent of the Government of South Africa to enhance the capacity of SMME's (Small, Medium, Micro Enterprises) in accord with the demands facing a modernising and global economy. The overall objectives of the GODISA Programme are economic growth and long-term employment creation through the enhancement of technological innovation, improvement of productivity, sustainability and international competitiveness of SMME's

The GODISA Programme is led by the South African Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology and supported by the South African Department of Trade and Industry and the European Union.

Arts, Culture, Science & Technology

PPG, with wm-e, were awarded a tender to develop a Generic Training and Development Resource to support four of the Technology Transfer Centres that have been established by the GODISA Programme.

The Project kicked of in June with the PPG consultants meeting the CEOs of the four Centres. Three of the Centre's being in the Gauteng area - one in Pretoria and two in Johannesburg, and one Centre based in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal.

A detailed training and development needs analysis of all personnel at each of the centres was undertaken and all information was then collated and analysed. From this analysis, a generic training and development programme was designed and developed to meet the needs of the centres' staff to assist them in moving forward in the various stages of their operational business cycles.

Two T&D programmes have been developed, one for all the staff of the Centres' up to and excluding the Senior Management and the CEO, and the second course for the Senior Management and the CEOs. The piloting of these courses took place in January 2003 with a final presentation to the GODISA Board and their Stakeholders planned for February 2003.

PPG is pleased to have contributed to the development of these incubators for technologically based industry ranging from mining through to Information Technology, and is looking forward to rolling out the two programmes to GODISA's other centres during 2003.
